New Patients

Just as adults have their own special dental needs, so do children. And it’s important that children see the dentist early on – while they’re still toddlers – so they’ll feel good about oral health care. According to both the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Academy of Pediatrics, a child’s first dental visit should take place at six months of age or within six months of their first erupted tooth. From birth to age 12, we’re here to take care of all your child’s dental needs.

Fill out the patient information forms prior to your appointment.

What to expect on your child’s first visit

  • Assess your child risk of dental problems such as decay or crowded teeth.
  • Clean your child’s teeth.
  • Apply a fluoride treatment.
  • Take an x-ray of your child’s teeth. (starting normally around age 3 or 4)
  • Educate them on good oral hygiene and show them how to brush and floss.
  • Discuss treatment options if necessary.
  • Talk about possible needs in the future and answer any questions you may have.

Do I stay with my child during the visit?

Here at All Smiles Pediatric Dental we always welcome the parents to join their child and us as we discuss their dental needs and treatment plans. During your child’s treatment, we ask that the parents remain in the waiting room. This helps the staff and the doctor establish a positive personal relationship with your child. Our purpose is to both gain your child’s confidence and overcome apprehensions.

What about finances?
